About Us

The Missional Wisdom Foundation is a private non-profit Christian corporation that supports the education and entrepreneurial development of adults in missional theology. We focus on practicing Christianity through a lifestyle of hospitality, prayer and humanitarian work in local neighborhoods. We want to be part of guiding a new generation of Christian leaders who live, learn and worship in many expressions of community, helping more people to become disciples of Jesus where they live, work and play.

Bringing our vision to life requires a shift in the way that individuals perceive their roles and responsibilities as Christian people and as Christian leaders. The MWF makes it possible for students, clergy and lay people engaged in Christian leadership to explore the frontier of Christian life, worship and service by providing educational resources and missional experiences.

The Foundation is both an incubator and a think tank, a laboratory and a school. We experiment, facilitate, coach, educate and innovate alongside leaders who are working to uncover what it means to be a follower of Jesus in the 21st century.

One of the ways that we do that is through “new monasticism,” which is based on “old” monasticism – think robes, hoods, lots of praying and chanting – but is updated for the century. We maintain eight new monastic communities where people live together, 21st pray together and practice in the community together while maintaining a job or going to college. The people in these communities – which are houses or apartments in regular neighborhoods – agree to live under a set of guidelines based on prayers, presence, gifts services, and witness while they are living together. These communities are not closed and cultish – rather, they are very open and often host neighborhood meals, community gardens and neighborhood activities.
